Halloween pirate brownies

Since we are going to a Halloween party tonight and a lot of people are bringing food I figured the best bet was to go for a dessert. I love brownies and I do make pretty tasty ones too but I wanted to spice them up a bit for Halloween. Since we are going dressed as pirates I figured why not put the jolly roger (if you don't know what that is it's the skull and cross bones from a pirate flag) on them and make them into little pirate brownies so here's what I did....first I found an image online the size I needed and printed it out onto card stock.

Then I cut around the image with a razor blade to make a stencil. Below is the back side of the image so you can see it better. I had to leave a little section of paper next to the eyes and nose so that the face parts would stay in place while using the stencil.

Next I place the image over each individual brownie and put some powdered sugar in a sifter (or strainer) and sifted it over the image.

I lifted the stencil off carefully and there you have it! Halloween pirate brownies!

And here is the finished tray all ready to go to the party tonight! I think they came out really cute!

I love Halloween....

It's the most creative holiday, if you ask me, and I love to be creative and to see what others do with their creativity!

We went to the PA Renaissance Faire last weekend and they had the BIGGEST scarecrows I have seen this year! They were taller than the 2 story buildings next to them. I love how they made the "guts" out of dried gourds. I want one for my front yard!

lois' birthday gift

I went to my cousin Lois' 40th birthday party last night. My cousin lives in CA but her parents (my aunt & uncle) live in PA and since she was coming for a visit they decided to throw a party for her. My sister Jennifer, a graphic designer, made the invitations. They had sunflowers on them since is Lois' favorite flower. I had no idea what to get for her birthday. I kept coming up with ideas but all of them were shot down by other family members. Everyone told me to give her cash because it was easiest to travel back home with. But to me cash is the easy way out. I wanted to give her something that would remind her of her 40th birthday. So the night before the party I came up with idea. A sunflower necklace! So i sat down and started sketching....this photo of the finished product. It is also stamped on the back "happy 40th birthday" and she loved it!
